Born in Santiago, Cuba, Dr. Ricardo J. Garcia Alemany earned his medical degree at Escuela Autonoma de Ciencias Medicas de Centro America (UCIMED), in San Jose, Costa Rica. He completed an internship in general surgery at University of Miami – Jackson Memorial Hospital, and thereafter a residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center. He completed his rheumatology fellowship at the State University of New York (SUNY)—Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, where he was heavily involved in research and participated in several clinical trials. He is the co-author of the book chapter “Vasculitis in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus” in the second edition of Inflammatory Diseases of the Blood Vessels, and has published in other peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Garcia Alemany joined Vanguard Rheumatology Partners in 2011 and is currently in clinical practice at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he also teaches medical students and residents. He enjoys all aspects of rheumatology but has a special interest in lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, gout and fibromyalgia.
